In our continued tradition of offering a project along with our free download every month, this month we will offer a slightly different concept. Over the next 4 months we will feature 4 new designs that will be used to complete one project in 4 steps - our “Victorian Crib Quilt.” Each month we will feature a design, along with instructions for completing that particular segment of the quilt. When the final design (#4) is featured in March, your quilt will be well on it’s way to completion. Our design can be reproduced on a Quantum® XL-150, XL-1000, XL-5000 or XL-6000 using your PSW™ software. It can also be reproduced on the Futura™ machines. Use your favorite shade of Robison-Anton® thread to sew out this one color design.

Victorian Crib Quilt - Part 1

Embroidery

Finished size of sample is approximately 49” square. Size may be adjusted up or down by changing measurements of the blocks and/or sashing strips and border. Quilt will be completed over 4 months; required embroidery designs and instructions will be featured on a monthly basis.

Materials needed:

    Fabric (yardage is given for 50" square finished quilt)
  • ½ yard each of 2 pastels for squares (one color will also be used for corner squares on final border)
  • ¾ yard of third pastel for squares and outer borders
  • 3 yards coordinating fabric for sashing, borders, binding and backing
  • 1½ yards low loft cotton batting


    • Stablizers
  • 2 yards tear away adhesive backed stabilizer


    • Notions
  • Air soluble marking pen
  • Bobbinfil
  • Chromium needles, size 12 and 14
  • Quarter inch foot (optional)
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Neutral colored sewing thread for construction
  • 3 colors of embroidery thread (rayon or poly), each slightly darker than the pastels being used for the squares
  • 3 colors of variegated 30 wt. thread for quilting
  • Optional: rotary cutter, and mat
  • Long ruler
